Introduction
We live in a world obsessed with instant recognition—likes, titles, applause, visibility. Everyone wants glory now. But Scripture reminds us that true honor is not rushed, and it is not random. Proverbs 3:35 draws a sharp contrast between two lives, two paths, and two endings: the wise and the fool.
This verse is not just about how people see us—it’s about what we inherit in the end.
I. “The Wise Shall Inherit Glory”
1. Wisdom Is a Way of Life
In Proverbs, wisdom is not merely intelligence or education—it is living in reverent obedience to God.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” (Proverbs 9:10)
The wise person:
- Walks humbly with God
- Seeks instruction
- Submits to correction
- Lives with eternity in view
Wisdom is shown in daily choices, not dramatic moments.
2. Glory Is an Inheritance, Not a Performance
The verse says the wise inherit glory. That means:
- It is received, not stolen
- Given, not demanded
- Often delayed, not immediate
God’s glory comes in His timing. Sometimes it shows up as:
- A good name
- A faithful legacy
- Spiritual fruit
- Eternal reward
“Humble yourselves… that He may exalt you in due time.” (1 Peter 5:6)
3. God Is the One Who Honors the Wise
True glory comes from God, not people.
“Those who honor Me I will honor.” (1 Samuel 2:30)
The wise may be overlooked for a season—but heaven is keeping records.
II. “Shame Shall Be the Legacy of Fools”
1. Foolishness Rejects God’s Wisdom
Biblical foolishness is not lack of ability—it is refusal to listen.
“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” (Psalm 14:1)
The fool:
- Despises correction
- Lives for self
- Chooses pride over truth
2. Shame Is Also an Inheritance
Just like glory, shame is not always immediate.
A fool may appear successful for a while, but eventually:
- Relationships break
- Integrity collapses
- Consequences surface
- Reputation is damaged
What they pass on is not honor—but regret.
3. A Life Without Wisdom Leaves a Scar
Shame doesn’t only affect the fool—it affects families, churches, and generations.
“The wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23)
III. A Choice Set Before Us
This verse places a choice before every listener:
- Wisdom or foolishness
- Glory or shame
- Submission or pride
No one drifts into wisdom—you must choose it daily.
“Get wisdom! Get understanding!” (Proverbs 4:5)
IV. Jesus: The Perfect Example
Jesus is the embodiment of Proverbs 3:35.
- He chose humility
- He endured shame
- He walked in perfect wisdom
“Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him…” (Philippians 2:9)
Those who follow Christ walk the same pattern: cross before crown, humility before glory.
Conclusion
Proverbs 3:35 reminds us that every life leaves a legacy.
The question is not if you will inherit something—but what.
Choose wisdom.
Walk humbly.
Trust God with the outcome.
Because in the end, the wise inherit glory—and nothing God gives is ever wasted.
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
