IV. How to Identify Your False Gods

Ask yourself:

• What do I think about most?
• What do I fear losing most?
• What controls my decisions?
• Where do I run when I’m stressed?
• What gives me my identity?

Whatever sits on the throne of your heart — that’s your god.

V. How to Tear Down False Gods

1. Repent

Acknowledge them honestly.

You can’t destroy what you won’t admit.

2. Remove

Sometimes drastic action is needed.

In the Old Testament, idols weren’t stored — they were smashed.

You may need to:

• change habits
• set boundaries
• cut off influences

3. Replace

You don’t just remove idols — you enthrone God.

Fill your life with:

• prayer
• Scripture
• worship
• obedience

The heart can’t stay empty. God must fill it.

VI. The Gospel Solution

The problem isn’t just idols out there — it’s idolatry in here.

Our hearts constantly manufacture false gods.

That’s why we need Jesus.

On the cross:

• He forgave our idolatry
• He broke sin’s power
• He reclaimed our worship

Jesus doesn’t just demand first place — He deserves it.

Because He gave everything for us.

Conclusion

Everyone worships something.

The question is not “Do you have a god?”
The question is “Which god do you have?”

False gods:

• disappoint
• enslave
• perish

But the true God:

• saves
• satisfies
• lasts forever
