Bible Facts Of The Day, March 16, 2026 “Everything Under His Feet”

1. God’s Original Plan for Humanity

The writer of Hebrews is quoting from Psalm 8:6. In Psalm 8, David marvels that God gave mankind dominion over creation.

God’s design in Genesis 1:26 was that humans would rule over the earth as His representatives.

God said:

  • Let them have dominion over the fish
  • Over the birds
  • Over every living thing.

Humanity was created with honor, dignity, and authority.

But something went wrong.

When sin entered the world through Adam, humanity lost its authority and harmony with creation. Instead of ruling creation perfectly, we see disorder:

  • Natural disasters
  • Violence
  • Disease
  • Death

This is why Hebrews says:

“At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection.”

The world is not functioning the way God originally intended.

2. The Present Reality: We Do Not Yet See

Hebrews is very honest about reality.

If everything were already under human control:

  • There would be no sickness
  • No wars
  • No death
  • No suffering

But we see the opposite.

Even the most powerful people cannot control:

  • time
  • death
  • nature
  • their own hearts.

This verse teaches a deep truth:

Humanity failed in its mission because of sin.

As Romans 3:23 says:

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

The authority God gave to humanity was broken.

But the story does not end there.

3. Jesus: The True and Perfect Man

Immediately after this verse, Hebrews gives the answer:

“But we see Jesus…” (Hebrews 2:9)

Where Adam failed, Jesus succeeded.

Jesus came as the perfect human:

  • He obeyed God completely
  • He conquered sin
  • He defeated death.

Through His death and resurrection, Christ restored what humanity lost.

As 1 Corinthians 15:27 declares:

“God has put all things in subjection under his feet.”

Jesus now holds the authority that humanity failed to exercise.

4. The “Already but Not Yet”

Hebrews teaches an important biblical tension.

Already:

Jesus has been given all authority.

As He said in Matthew 28:18

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

But Not Yet:

We do not yet see the full visible submission of creation.

Sin, suffering, and evil still exist.

But one day that will change.

5. The Future: Total Victory of Christ

The Bible promises that Christ will completely rule over everything.

Philippians 2:10 says:

“Every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.”

And Revelation 11:15 declares:

“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ.”

One day:

  • evil will end
  • death will be destroyed
  • Christ’s reign will be fully visible.

Everything will truly be under His feet.

6. What This Means for Us Today

Because of Hebrews 2:8, believers live with hope and confidence.

1. Christ is already in control

Even when the world looks chaotic, nothing is outside His authority.

2. Our suffering is temporary

The present disorder is not the final chapter.

3. Our future is secure

Those who belong to Christ will share in His victory.

As Romans 8:17 says, we are heirs with Christ.

Conclusion

Hebrews 2:8 shows three powerful truths:

  1. God created humanity to rule.
  2. Sin caused humanity to lose that authority.
  3. Jesus came to restore and fulfill God’s plan.

Right now we do not see everything under control.

But we do see Jesus.

And one day the entire universe will declare:

Jesus Christ is Lord.
