1. LOVE THAT SEES
“When Jesus therefore saw His mother…”
In the middle of suffering, Jesus sees.
He sees:
- Mary—grieving
- John—standing near
Most people, when hurting, turn inward.
But Jesus looks outward.
This is divine love.
Even in pain:
- He notices
- He cares
- He responds
Application:
When life hurts:
- Do we still see others?
- Or do we only see ourselves?
Christ shows us:
Love does not disappear in suffering—it shines through it.
2. LOVE THAT PROVIDES
Jesus says:
- “Behold your son”
- “Behold your mother”
He is providing for His mother.
Mary is about to lose everything—
but Jesus makes sure she is not alone.
From the cross, He meets a practical need.
This shows us:
- Love is not just words
- Love takes responsibility
Application:
Who has God placed in your life?
- Someone hurting?
- Someone in need?
- Someone you are called to care for?
Real love says:
“I will not leave you alone.”
3. LOVE THAT CREATES FAMILY
Jesus connects Mary and John.
They are not related by blood—
but now they are family.
At the cross, a new family is born.
This is the Church.
In Christ:
- We are not strangers
- We belong to one another
Application:
We are called to:
- Care for each other
- Support each other
- Live as family
4. LOVE THAT COSTS
Jesus is dying… yet still giving.
This is costly love.
Not convenient.
Not easy.
But sacrificial.
This is the same love that saved us.
Because the cross is where:
- Sin was paid for
- Grace was given
- Love was proven
CONCLUSION
At the cross we see:
- Love that sees
- Love that provides
- Love that unites
- Love that sacrifices
Will you:
Embrace the family of God?
See others in your pain?
Step in to meet needs?
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
