PART III — THE GOD WHO CREATED YOU HAS A PURPOSE FOR YOU

Created to Bear Fruit for His Glory

Genesis 1:1; Ephesians 2:10; John 15:8

If Genesis 1:1 tells us where everything came from, the rest of Scripture reveals why we are here.

God did not place us upon this earth without purpose.

The God who created galaxies also created you.

The God who numbered the stars knows your life.

And the God who gave you life desires that your life bring glory to Him.

1. YOU ARE NOT HERE BY ACCIDENT

Paul declares:

Ephesians 2:10
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works…”

Notice that word:

Workmanship.

The believer is God’s workmanship.

God saves us not so that we can remain spiritually idle, but so that our lives may demonstrate His transforming grace.

God has work for His people to do.

There are people to love.

There are souls who need the Gospel.

There are hurting people who need encouragement.

There are believers who need strengthening.

There is a generation that needs to hear about Jesus Christ.

2. GOD WANTS US TO BECOME GOOD SEED

Jesus frequently used the language of seeds, soil, fields, harvests, and fruit.

Why?

Because spiritual life is meant to produce something.

A seed may look small.

But inside that seed God has placed the potential for life and fruit.

Jesus said:

John 12:24
“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”

There must be a death to self.

A death to pride.

A death to selfish ambition.

A death to the desires of the flesh.

Then Christ’s life can increasingly be manifested through us.

3. GOD EXPECTS FRUIT FROM HIS PEOPLE

Jesus said:

John 15:8
“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

Notice:

“Much fruit.”

God does not save us merely to occupy a seat in church.

He calls us to bear fruit.

The fruit of love.

The fruit of holiness.

The fruit of obedience.

The fruit of righteousness.

The fruit of generosity.

The fruit of witnessing.

The fruit of serving.

The fruit of the Spirit.

A healthy spiritual tree produces spiritual fruit.

4. THE CREATOR ALSO SUSTAINS HIS CREATION

We sometimes speak of creation as though God created the universe and then stepped away.

Scripture teaches something far greater.

Colossians 1:17
“And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”

Christ not only created all things.

He sustains all things.

Hebrews says that He is:

Hebrews 1:3
“…upholding all things by the word of His power…”

Every sunrise happens under God’s sovereign rule.

Every planet continues according to the order He established.

Every breath we receive is dependent upon His sustaining providence.

The same God who holds creation together is able to hold His people.

When circumstances shake—

God remains.

When people disappoint—

God remains.

When possessions disappear—

God remains.

When our strength fails—

God remains.

When this world passes away—

GOD REMAINS.

5. ONE DAY CREATION WILL BOW BEFORE ITS CREATOR

Genesis begins with creation.

Revelation moves us toward the consummation of God’s purposes.

The God who created everything remains sovereign over everything.

Revelation gives us this picture of heavenly worship:

Revelation 4:11
“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”

Heaven worships God because He is the Creator.

And one day every knee will bow before Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:10–11
“…at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord…”

The atheist will know.

The skeptic will know.

The kings of the earth will know.

The nations will know.

All creation will know:

JESUS CHRIST IS LORD.

FINAL CALL — RETURN TO THE FIRST FOUR WORDS

Before you become overwhelmed by your problems, remember:

“IN THE BEGINNING GOD.”

Before you worry about tomorrow:

In the beginning God.

Before you wonder whether God has enough power:

In the beginning God.

Before you question whether God can restore your life:

In the beginning God.

Before you fear what is happening in this world:

In the beginning God.

The God who spoke creation into existence has not lost His power.

His wisdom is beyond our comprehension.

His power is limitless.

His mercy is everlasting.

His love has no boundaries.

His grace is abundant.

His dominion rules over heaven and earth.

He has no beginning.

He has no end.

He is everlasting.

He is Almighty.

And through Jesus Christ we have been given the privilege of knowing Him, worshiping Him, serving Him, and living for His glory.

Therefore, let us thank Him for placing us upon this earth.

Let us surrender ourselves to His purpose.

Let us become good seed in His field.

Let us bear much fruit.

Let us proclaim Jesus Christ.

And while we still have breath, let our lives declare:

“YOU ARE WORTHY, O LORD… FOR YOU CREATED ALL THINGS!”

Let the heavens praise Him!

Let the earth praise Him!

Let the Church praise Him!

Let every redeemed believer praise Him!

For our God is the Creator.

Jesus Christ is Lord.

And everything was created through Him and for Him.

REJOICE IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
