PART III-A — WORTHY IS THE LAMB

The Lamb Who Was Slain Now Stands in Glory

Revelation 5:6, 11–12

“And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain…”

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

Introduction — The Lamb Is Standing

There is something incredibly powerful about the picture John gives us in Revelation 5.

John does not see the Lamb lying dead.

He sees:

“A LAMB…STANDING.”

He bears the evidence that He had been slain.

Yet He is standing.

He was crucified—

but He stands.

He was buried—

but He stands.

Death came against Him—

but He stands.

The grave received Him—

but He stands.

Satan attacked Him—

but He stands.

Hell could not hold Him.

Death could not defeat Him.

The grave could not imprison Him.

THE LAMB WHO WAS SLAIN IS ALIVE FOREVERMORE!

1. JOHN WEPT BECAUSE NO ONE WAS WORTHY

Revelation 5:1 tells us that John saw a scroll in the right hand of God.

Then a mighty angel proclaimed:

Revelation 5:2

“Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”

Heaven searched.

Earth searched.

Creation was searched.

But Revelation 5:3 says:

“And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.”

Then John says:

“So I wept much…”

Why was John weeping?

Because no human being was worthy.

No prophet was worthy.

No apostle was worthy.

No earthly king was worthy.

No angel stepped forward.

Abraham could not open it.

Moses could not open it.

David could not open it.

Elijah could not open it.

Peter could not open it.

Paul could not open it.

John himself could not open it.

Humanity needed someone worthy.

And then heaven spoke.

2. “DO NOT WEEP!”

Revelation 5:5 says:

“But one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed…’”

What magnificent words:

“DO NOT WEEP.”

Why?

Because Someone has prevailed.

Someone has conquered.

Someone is worthy.

John is told to look for:

THE LION OF JUDAH.

But when John looks, what does he see?

Revelation 5:6

“…stood a Lamb as though it had been slain.”

He heard Lion.

He saw Lamb.

What does this teach us?

Jesus conquered as the Lion because He was willing to become the Lamb.

His victory came through sacrifice.

His exaltation came through humiliation.

His crown came through the cross.

His resurrection came after His death.

THE LION CONQUERED BY BECOMING THE LAMB.

3. THE LAMB STILL BEARS THE MARKS OF HIS SACRIFICE

John says:

“A Lamb as though it had been slain.”

The marks of Calvary were not something heaven was ashamed of.

They became the testimony of His victory.

When Jesus appeared to Thomas after His resurrection, He said:

John 20:27

“Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side.”

The wounds testified:

The price has been paid.

The sacrifice has been accepted.

Redemption has been accomplished.

Death has been defeated.

The scars of Jesus Christ proclaim throughout eternity:

“IT IS FINISHED!”

4. HEAVEN WORSHIPS THE LAMB

Then worship explodes throughout heaven.

Revelation 5:8 says:

“Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb…”

Notice what they did.

THEY FELL DOWN.

There are no casual spectators around the throne.

When heaven sees the Lamb, heaven worships.

Then countless angels join them.

Revelation 5:11 describes:

“…ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands.”

And they cry:

“WORTHY IS THE LAMB!”

Not:

Worthy is humanity.

Not:

Worthy is the preacher.

Not:

Worthy is the church building.

Not:

Worthy is the denomination.

Not:

Worthy is the angel.

Heaven has one central declaration:

WORTHY IS THE LAMB!

5. THE LAMB DESERVES EVERYTHING

Revelation 5:12 gives seven declarations:

“Power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

Everything belongs to Christ.

Power — belongs to the Lamb.

Riches — belong to the Lamb.

Wisdom — belongs to the Lamb.

Strength — belongs to the Lamb.

Honor — belongs to the Lamb.

Glory — belongs to the Lamb.

Blessing — belongs to the Lamb.

The question for us is:

If heaven gives Him everything, what are we withholding from Him?

Our time belongs to Him.

Our talents belong to Him.

Our possessions belong to Him.

Our worship belongs to Him.

Our bodies belong to Him.

Our future belongs to Him.

Our lives belong to Him.

CLOSING

Saints, lift your eyes above this temporary world.

There is a throne.

There is a Lamb.

And the Lamb is standing.

When circumstances tell you that everything is falling apart—

THE LAMB IS STILL STANDING.

When nations rage—

The Lamb is standing.

When evil appears powerful—

The Lamb is standing.

When the Church is persecuted—

The Lamb is standing.

When your heart is troubled—

The Lamb is standing.

Jesus Christ has conquered.

Therefore join the worship of heaven:

“WORTHY IS THE LAMB WHO WAS SLAIN!”

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, You alone are worthy. You were slain for our sins, but You rose victorious from the grave. Teach us to worship You with our entire lives. When this world troubles us, turn our eyes toward heaven and remind us that the Lamb is standing victorious. Receive our honor, worship, obedience, and praise. Worthy is the Lamb! Amen.

“Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
