Luke 2:10
10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
As we read the passage written in Luke chapter two and verse ten, an angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds claiming to bring good tidings of great joy. The angel also mentioned that this great joy will be to all people. When the angel stood before the shepherds, they were terribly scared because of the glory that was shinning around them.
When God approaches His children there is a glory that encircles them. There’s an invisible light that shines on the individuals that are under the glory of God. The angel said that this great joy will be to all people beginning with the simple minded shepherds. This good tidings or the good news was not meant for the kings or the intellectuals but for the lowly people like shepherds. Shepherds have only one job in their day to day lives, that is to take care of their sheep. They pretty much spend their time watching over their flock from the predators, and take them to the green pastures to rest and graze. The shepherd ensures that no sheep is lost or goes astray.
According to the Bible, Psalm 23 is attributed to King David, and is generally believed to have been written during his early life when he was a shepherd, before he became king, as the imagery heavily relies on the shepherd-sheep relationship; meaning it would have been written sometime during his youth in the wilderness, before he ascended to the throne.
So, when the angels had gone away from the shepherds into the heaven, the shepherds decided to visit this new born Babe in Bethlehem.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
