Just a woman… a flask… and Jesus.

And in one act, she reveals what true worship looks like.

1. She Came to Jesus Intentionally

“A woman came to Him…”

She didn’t stumble into worship—she came with a purpose.

• She knew where Jesus was
• She brought something valuable
• She came ready to give

Worship does not happen accidentally—it is intentional.

Application:

• You don’t drift into deep worship
• You decide to come to Jesus

2. She Brought What Was Costly

“…an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil…”

This was not ordinary perfume.

• It represented wealth
• It may have represented her future security
• It was precious, rare, and personal

True worship always costs something.

• David said: “I will not offer… that which costs me nothing” (2 Samuel 24:24)

Application:

• Cheap worship produces shallow encounters
• Costly worship produces eternal impact

3. She Broke What She Could Have Preserved

Other Gospel accounts tell us she broke the flask.

She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head (Mark 14:3)

Why break it?

• Once broken, it cannot be saved
• Once poured, it cannot be taken back

What looks excessive to people is often appropriate to Jesus.

• Stop measuring your worship by people’s expectations
• Start measuring it by Jesus’ worth

5. She Worshiped While Others Watched

“…as He sat at the table.”

This was a room full of people.

• Disciples were there
• Observers were present
• Critics were forming opinions

Yet she ignored all of them.

True worship is not performance—it is focus.

She saw only Jesus.

Application:

• Some people cannot worship because they are too aware of others
• But real worship forgets the room and sees only Him

6. Her Act Was Prophetic

Jesus later reveals:

• She was preparing Him for burial (Matthew 26:12)

She didn’t fully understand it—but she obeyed it.

Truth:
Sometimes your worship is deeper than your understanding.

God can use your devotion to accomplish divine purposes you don’t even see.

7. Worship That Is Poured Out Leaves a Fragrance

Though not stated in this verse alone, the act filled the house with fragrance (John 12:3).

Real worship leaves evidence.

• It lingers

• It changes atmospheres

• When your life is poured out for Jesus, others will sense it
