PART III — Every Knee Shall Bow Before the Glorious King

    Revelation 1:17–18

“And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead…”

    Introduction

    John was not an unbeliever.

    He was not a pagan.

    He was not an enemy.

    He was the beloved disciple.

Yet when he saw Christ glorified…

    he collapsed.

    Why?

Because finite humanity cannot stand before infinite holiness.

    1. Even the Apostle Could Not Stand

The same John who rested upon Jesus’ bosom now fell like a dead man.

This demonstrates the immeasurable difference between Christ’s earthly humiliation and His heavenly exaltation.

No human pride survives His presence.

    2. Christ Holds Absolute Authority

    Jesus declares,

“I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen.”

    Death could not hold Him.

The grave could not imprison Him.

    Hell could not defeat Him.

    Satan could not overcome Him.

    He conquered them all.

    3. He Holds the Keys

    Verse 18 concludes,

“And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”

    Keys symbolize ownership and authority.

    Only Christ determines:

    life…

    death…

    judgment…

    eternity.

    Every burial is temporary.

    Every grave awaits His command.

    Every believer awaits His voice.

    4. Every Opponent Will One Day Bow

Throughout history many have challenged Christ.

    Emperors.

    Atheists.

    Philosophers.

    Religious leaders.

    False prophets.

    Human governments.

Yet every one of them has passed away.

    Their kingdoms have vanished.

    Their philosophies have faded.

Their names are forgotten by many.

    But Jesus Christ remains.

    Philippians 2:10–11

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

The One mocked at Calvary will one day be acknowledged by every creature.

    5. There Is No Glory Comparable to Christ

No religion can produce a Savior like Jesus Christ.

    No philosopher has conquered death.

No prophet has risen by his own power.

No teacher possesses the keys of death and Hades.

Only Jesus Christ is described as the One whose countenance shines “like the sun shining in its strength” (Revelation 1:16).

He alone is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last (Revelation 1:17).

He alone is worthy of worship.

    Conclusion

    The rulers at Calvary asked,

    “Come down from the cross.”

But Jesus remained upon the cross because He came to save sinners.

Three days later, He rose from the dead in triumph.

Forty days later, He ascended into heaven.

Today He reigns in indescribable glory.

The Jesus who once wore swaddling cloths…

then hung stripped upon the cross…

is now clothed with garments reaching to His feet, crowned with eternal majesty, His eyes blazing like fire, His voice like many waters, His face shining brighter than the sun, and the keys of death and Hades in His hand.

One day every eye shall see Him.

The question is not whether He is Lord.

The question is whether we will recognize Him now, while His invitation of grace still stands, or only on the day when every knee bows before His glorious throne.

    Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
