PART I – THE GOD WHO CREATED HUNGER

Introduction

One of the first realities every human experiences is hunger. A newborn baby instinctively cries for milk. No one teaches a child to become hungry. Hunger has already been written into the DNA of life by the Creator.

When God created the heavens and the earth, He designed every living creature with the need to be sustained.

• Plants require water.
• Animals seek food.
• Birds search for seed.
• Fish search for nourishment.
• Humanity hungers and thirsts daily.

This physical hunger reminds us of an even greater truth: God also designed man with a spiritual hunger.

The tragedy today is not that people are starving physically alone, but that millions are spiritually starving while surrounded by Bibles.

I. Physical Hunger Is God’s Design

God created the body with remarkable wisdom.

Taste buds enable us to enjoy food.

Our tongue allows us to experience both taste and thirst.

Without hunger, life cannot continue.

Psalm 104:27-28 says,

“These all wait for You, That You may give them their food in due season.”

Even creation depends upon God.

Hunger is God’s reminder that life is dependent upon Him.

II. Thirst Reveals Our Dependence

Jesus often used thirst as an illustration.

One of the clearest examples is found in Luke 16.

The rich man cried,

“Father Abraham, have mercy on me…send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue.” (Luke 16:24)

His wealth could not remove his thirst.

His riches could not purchase one drop of water.

His earthly success meant nothing in eternity.

Thirst reminds us that every human being is limited.

Only God can ultimately satisfy.

III. Physical Hunger Points Toward Spiritual Hunger

Every meal reminds us that our bodies need continual nourishment.

Likewise, our soul needs continual nourishment.

Jesus declared,

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)

Food strengthens the body.

God’s Word strengthens the soul.

Neglect either one long enough and death follows.

Application

Ask yourself:

• Am I feeding my body more than my soul?
• Do I crave God’s Word?
• Is Bible reading a delight or merely a duty?

The healthiest Christians are not those who know the most, but those who continually hunger for more of Christ.

Conclusion

God created physical hunger to keep us alive.

He created spiritual hunger to bring us closer to Himself.

Every growling stomach reminds us of a deeper need—a heart that longs for God.
