PART II – THE CALL TO REPENTANCE

Introduction

Every proclamation of the Kingdom begins with repentance.

John the Baptist preached repentance.

Jesus preached repentance.

The Apostles preached repentance.

Yet repentance is one of the least understood doctrines today.

Many want salvation without repentance.

They want heaven without holiness.

They want Christ as Savior but not Lord.

The Kingdom does not operate that way.

I. Why Repentance Is Necessary

God is holy.

Man is sinful.

Sin separates humanity from God.

From Eden onward, mankind has lived in rebellion.

The Kingdom confronts that rebellion.

The King’s first demand is repentance.

II. What Repentance Really Means

Repentance is not:

• Feeling guilty
• Feeling emotional
• Feeling religious

Repentance means:

A change of mind resulting in a change of life.

The prodigal son is a perfect example.

He turned from rebellion and returned to his father.

Repentance always changes direction.

III. Obstacles to Repentance

Pride

Many refuse to admit their sin.

Self-righteousness

Like the Pharisees.

Love of Sin

Many prefer darkness rather than light.

Fear

Some fear what they may lose.

IV. The Blessings of Repentance

When repentance occurs:

• Forgiveness comes.
• Peace comes.
• Restoration comes.
• Fellowship comes.

Repentance is not punishment.

Repentance is God’s invitation back home.

V. A Church That Repents

Revival always begins with repentance.

Before nations change:

• Churches must repent.
• Families must repent.
• Individuals must repent.

The Kingdom advances through humble hearts.

The King’s invitation remains open.
