1. The Reality of the New Birth
The new birth is not symbolic—it is supernatural. It is not self-improvement, behavior modification, or religious activity. It is God Himself recreating a human soul.
Jesus declared in John 3:3,
“Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
This is not optional. It is essential.
When a person is born again:
- A dead spirit comes alive
- A sinner becomes a child of God
- Darkness is replaced with light
As written in 2 Corinthians 5:17:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
This transformation is instant, yet its depth is eternal. It is a divine act that no human mind can fully comprehend.
2. Natural Birth vs. Spiritual Birth
When a mother gives birth, she goes through intense labor pains. This was part of the curse declared in Genesis 3:16.
Natural birth comes through:
- Pain
- Blood
- Struggle
But hear this clearly:
Spiritual birth also came through pain, blood, and unimaginable suffering—but not ours.
It came through Jesus Christ.
3. The Labor of Christ on the Cross
The new birth is free to us—but it was infinitely costly to Him.
On the cross:
- Jesus bore our sin
- He endured separation from the Father
- He carried the full weight of divine wrath
In Isaiah 53:5, it says:
“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities…”
This was not just suffering—it was divine labor.
Christ travailed like a mother in labor—but instead of bringing forth a single child, He brought forth a redeemed people.
His cry in John 19:30—
“It is finished!”
—was the declaration that the labor was complete.
The price for your new birth had been fully paid.
4. A Birth Without Human Effort
Natural birth requires human participation.
Spiritual birth does not.
Ephesians 2:8–9 reminds us:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith… not of works…”
You did not labor for your salvation.
You did not earn it.
You did not deserve it.
Christ labored so you could be born again without striving.
This is why the new birth is a mystery:
- God initiates it
- The Spirit performs it
- Christ purchased it
5. The Mystery That Heaven Will Reveal
There are depths to this salvation that we cannot yet fully grasp.
Why such suffering?
Why such love?
Why such a price for such undeserving people?
The full weight of Christ’s labor will only be understood in eternity.
As written in 1 Corinthians 13:12:
“For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face…”
One day:
- We will see the scars
- We will understand the cost
- We will grasp the magnitude of His love
And we will realize that our new birth was written in His blood.
6. Evidence of Being Truly Born Again
If someone is truly born again, there will be evidence:
- A new hunger for God
- A hatred for sin
- A desire for holiness
- A love for truth
Because the same power that raised Christ from the dead now lives inside them.
This is not religion.
This is resurrection life.
7. The Call: Have You Been Born Again?
This is the most important question you will ever answer.
Not:
- Were you raised in church?
- Do you believe in God?
- Are you a good person?
But:
Have you been born again?
Because:
- Without the new birth, there is no salvation
- Without transformation, there is no entrance into the kingdom
8. Final Exhortation
The new birth is:
- A miracle
- A mystery
- A gift
- A result of Christ’s suffering
You were not born again cheaply.
You were born again through the agony of the Son of God.
So do not treat salvation lightly.
Live as:
- One who has been redeemed
- One who has been transformed
- One who has been purchased by blood
Closing Declaration
You were born once into sin…
But through Christ, you can be born again into glory.
And the labor that brought you forth
was not your own—
it was finished at the cross.
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
