Introduction: The Divine Command Beyond the Natural
From the very beginning, God declared in Genesis 1:28, “Be fruitful and multiply.” In the natural sense, this command required a man and a woman—two becoming one—to produce life and establish a lineage.
But Scripture is not limited to the natural. Every physical truth reveals a deeper spiritual reality.
So the question is:
When a person is born again and becomes one with Christ—has the command been fulfilled, or has it just begun?
1. Born Again: The Miracle of Becoming One with Christ
Jesus said in John 3:3, “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
When a person is truly saved:
- The old nature dies
- A new creation is born (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- The believer is united with Christ
This is not symbolic—it is spiritual reality.
Just as a man and woman become one flesh, the believer becomes one spirit with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17).
But hear this clearly:
Birth is not the destination. Birth is the beginning.
A newborn child is not mature. He must grow, develop, and eventually reproduce.
So it is in the Spirit.
2. Spiritual Fruitfulness: The Evidence of New Life
God never intended spiritual life to remain stagnant.
Jesus declared in John 15:5:
“He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit.”
Fruitfulness is the proof of union with Christ.
What is this fruit?
- The character of Christ (Galatians 5:22–23)
- Righteous living
- Obedience to God
- Love for others
If there is no fruit, there is no evidence of life.
A born-again believer is not called just to exist—but to produce.
3. Spiritual Multiplication: Reproducing Life in Others
God’s command did not stop at “be fruitful”—He added, “multiply.”
This is where many believers stop short.
Spiritually speaking, multiplication means:
- Sharing the Gospel
- Discipling others
- Leading souls into the Kingdom
Jesus’ final command in Matthew 28:19:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”
This is spiritual reproduction.
Just as natural life produces after its kind, spiritual life must reproduce spiritual life.
If you are truly alive in Christ, life must flow through you into others.
4. Union with Christ: A Living Relationship, Not a One-Time Event
Being “one with Christ” is not a static position—it is a dynamic relationship.
Jesus said:
- “Abide in Me” (John 15:4)
- “Continue in My word” (John 8:31)
This means:
- Daily surrender
- Daily obedience
- Daily transformation
You don’t just receive Christ—you walk with Him.
The tragedy today is that many treat salvation as an event instead of a lifelong journey.
5. The Danger of Stopping at Birth
Imagine a child that never grows.
Imagine a tree that never bears fruit.
It is unnatural. It is unhealthy.
In the same way:
- A believer who never matures is spiritually weak
- A believer who never produces is spiritually barren
God did not save you just to escape judgment—
He saved you to fulfill His purpose.
6. The Journey: From Birth to Multiplication
The spiritual life follows a divine pattern:
- Birth – You are born again
- Growth – You are transformed
- Fruitfulness – You reflect Christ
- Multiplication – You reproduce spiritually
This is the full cycle of God’s intention.
Conclusion: This Is Just the Beginning
So is being born again the end?
Absolutely not. It is the beginning of a divine journey.
- You were born again to grow
- You were united with Christ to bear fruit
- You were given life to give life
The same God who said “Be fruitful and multiply” in the natural,
is saying it again in the Spirit.
Final Call
Examine your life:
- Are you growing?
- Are you bearing fruit?
- Are you multiplying?
If not, return to the source—abide in Christ.
Because the true mark of a born-again believer is not just that they have life…
But that life flows through them to others.
Closing Prayer
“Lord, I surrender not just to be saved, but to be fruitful. Let my life reflect You, produce Your character, and multiply Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
