PART II — THE LEVITICAL SYSTEM: SHADOWS THAT COULD NOT SAVE
Introduction
For nearly fifteen hundred years, sacrifices continued.
Morning sacrifices.
Evening sacrifices.
Burnt offerings.
Sin offerings.
Blood upon blood.
Yet sin remained.
1. The Priesthood Was Temporary
Every priest died.
No priest remained forever.
The ministry constantly changed hands because death ruled over them.
Human priesthood was always interrupted by mortality.
2. The Sacrifices Could Never Remove Sin
Hebrews declares:
“It is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.”
Animals could cover sin temporarily, but they could never cleanse the conscience.
Every sacrifice reminded Israel:
“You still need redemption.”
3. The Temple Became Empty of God’s Glory
During the time of Jesus, the Ark of the Covenant was gone.
The Babylonians had destroyed Jerusalem centuries earlier during the exile under Nebuchadnezzar II.
The ark — the earthly symbol of God’s throne — was no longer in the temple.
The rituals continued.
The garments remained.
The incense burned.
But the glory was absent.
Religion without God’s presence becomes performance.
4. God Was Preparing Something Greater
The old covenant was a shadow pointing toward Christ.
Every lamb pointed to Jesus.
Every priest pointed to Jesus.
Every altar pointed to Jesus.
The Levitical system was never the final answer.
It was preparation for the coming Messiah.
Conclusion
The temple stood, but the true glory was coming.
Not in a golden box.
But in the Son of God Himself.
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
