Bible Facts Of The Day, May 28, 2026 “The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth”

Introduction

The words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount are not ordinary words. They are heavenly declarations spoken by the King of kings. In these eight blessings, Christ reveals the true character of those who belong to the Kingdom of God. The world celebrates pride, self-exaltation, aggression, and rebellion. But Jesus turns the values of the world upside down and says:

“Blessed are the meek.”

This is not the language of the world. This is the language of Heaven.

I. WHAT IS TRUE MEEKNESS?

Many people misunderstand meekness. The world thinks meekness is weakness, fear, or cowardice. But biblical meekness is strength under God’s control. It is the attitude of a heart fully surrendered to the will of God.

A meek person does not fight against God’s authority.
A meek person does not resist correction from God.
A meek person bows before the Lord and says:

“Not my will, but Yours be done.”

True meekness is submission to God even when the flesh wants revenge, pride, or self-glory.

Jesus Christ is the perfect example of meekness.

Though He created the heavens and the earth, He humbled Himself and came as a servant. Though He could command twelve legions of angels, He allowed sinful men to nail Him to a cross.

The King of Glory rode into Jerusalem not on a war horse, but on a donkey.

The Lion became the Lamb.

II. THE WORLD HATES MEEKNESS

The spirit of this world glorifies pride.

The world says:

  • Promote yourself.
  • Defend yourself.
  • Exalt yourself.
  • Trust yourself.

But the Kingdom of God says:

  • Humble yourself.
  • Deny yourself.
  • Crucify yourself.
  • Submit yourself to God.

Ever since the fall of Adam, humanity has resisted God’s authority. Pride is the spirit of Satan himself.

Satan said:

“I will ascend.”
“I will exalt my throne.”

But Jesus said:

“I delight to do Your will, O My God.”

Today, meek believers are mocked. The righteous are persecuted. The humble are overlooked. Many of God’s people suffer abuse, rejection, and dispossession.

The meek do not currently rule the earth. The proud, the wicked, and the rebellious seem to dominate society.

But Jesus gives a prophetic promise:

“They shall inherit the earth.”

The story is not over.

III. THE COMING KINGDOM OF CHRIST

There is coming a day when Jesus Christ will return in power and great glory.

The kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.

The proud nations will tremble.
The wicked rulers will fall.
The rebellion of man will be crushed.

Jesus Christ will establish His millennial reign upon the earth.

This present evil age will not continue forever.

The Bible declares:

“Evildoers shall be cut off; but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.” — Psalm 37:9

The promise Jesus spoke in Matthew 5:5 points forward to that glorious Kingdom age.

The meek may suffer now, but they will reign later.

Today the righteous are strangers and pilgrims.
Tomorrow they shall reign with Christ.

Today believers are hated by the world.
Tomorrow they shall inherit the earth.

IV. THE CHURCH AND THE COMING OF THE LORD

Before the millennial reign begins, Jesus Christ will descend from Heaven to gather His Church.

The trumpet will sound.
The dead in Christ shall rise.
The saints will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air.

This world is moving rapidly toward judgment, but the people of God are moving toward glory.

The return of Jesus is not a fairy tale.
It is the blessed hope of the Church.

And when Christ establishes His Kingdom, the meek will reign with Him.

Not because of human greatness.
Not because of earthly power.
But because they humbled themselves before God.

V. PRACTICING MEEKNESS TODAY

How do we live meekly in a proud and rebellious generation?

We practice meekness:

  • By submitting to the Word of God.
  • By forgiving those who hurt us.
  • By resisting pride.
  • By walking in humility.
  • By trusting God instead of fighting for self-exaltation.
  • By allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts.

Meekness is not natural to fallen humanity.
It is the fruit of the Spirit.

The flesh wants revenge.
The flesh wants recognition.
The flesh wants control.

But the Spirit teaches us to surrender.

The meek person says:

“Lord, have Your way in me.”

VI. A FINAL WARNING

The earth will not belong to the proud forever.

The wealthy will not keep it forever.
The wicked rulers will not dominate forever.
The rebellious will not prosper forever.

A divine reversal is coming.

Jesus Christ will return.

And when He does, only those who belong to Him will inherit His Kingdom.

The question is not:
“Who owns the earth today?”

The question is:
“Who will inherit it when Christ returns?”

CONCLUSION

Matthew 5:5 is more than a gentle encouragement. It is a prophetic declaration from the mouth of Jesus Christ.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

The meek may weep now.
The meek may suffer now.
The meek may be rejected now.

But their future is glorious.

The King is coming.
The Kingdom is coming.
And the meek shall inherit the earth.

So let us humble ourselves before Almighty God.
Let us surrender our pride.
Let us walk in obedience and holiness.

For the humble shall be exalted,
and the meek shall reign with Christ forever.

Amen.
