Matthew 4:3

“If You are the Son of God…”

Introduction

Notice Satan’s first words.

“If…”

The devil always introduces doubt.

He questioned what God had already declared.

Only a short time earlier the Father had spoken:

“This is My beloved Son…”

Satan attempts to replace certainty with uncertainty.

He still uses this method today.

He whispers:

• Does God really love you?
• Has God forgotten you?
• Are you really saved?
• Does prayer really work?

His greatest weapon is doubt.

Three Truths

1. Satan Questions What God Has Already Settled

God had already spoken.

Jesus did not need to prove Himself.

Neither do believers.

Our identity is found in Christ—not in the opinions of others.

2. Satan Wants Us to Act Independently of God

The temptation was not merely bread.

It was independence.

Jesus could have created bread.

But He refused to act outside His Father’s will.

Obedience is always greater than ability.

3. Faith Waits for God’s Timing

Jesus trusted His Father to provide.

Sometimes believers want immediate answers.

God often works according to His perfect timing.

His delays are never mistakes.

Application

Never allow temporary hardship to make you doubt God’s eternal promises.
