“And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed…”

Introduction

One of the most beautiful expressions of worship in Scripture is the lifting of holy hands. Throughout the Bible, lifted hands symbolize surrender, dependence, praise, prayer, thanksgiving, and complete trust in God.

When Israel fought Amalek, the battle was not ultimately won by Joshua’s sword but by God’s power responding to believing prayer.

Every time Moses lifted his hands toward heaven, victory came.

Every time his hands fell, defeat followed.

God was teaching Israel that victory comes from heaven—not merely from human strength.

This event becomes a prophetic picture of another Man whose hands would one day be lifted—not on a hill called Rephidim—but on a hill called Calvary.

There, Jesus Christ would win the greatest battle in history.
