Bible Facts Of The Day, August 25, 2026 “JESUS – THE LAMB OF GOD – PART I”

Throughout Scripture, a lamb appears again and again.

In Genesis, God provides a sacrifice.

In Exodus, the lamb’s blood protects a household from judgment.

In Isaiah, the Servant is led like a lamb to the slaughter.

In John, Jesus is identified as the Lamb of God.

At Calvary, the Lamb is sacrificed.

In Revelation, the Lamb stands victorious, receives worship, opens the scroll, defeats His enemies, celebrates the marriage supper, and reigns forever.

The Bible moves from the lamb for one man, to the lamb for one household, to the Lamb for the world, and finally to the Lamb upon the throne.

PART I — THE LAMB PROVIDED

“God Will Provide for Himself the Lamb”

Genesis 22:7–8

“But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, ‘My father!’ And he said, ‘Here I am, my son.’ Then he said, ‘Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?’ And Abraham said, ‘My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.’”

There is a question in Genesis that echoes through the entire Bible:

“WHERE IS THE LAMB?”

Isaac saw the fire.

He saw the wood.

He saw the altar.

But something was missing.

Where is the lamb?

Abraham gave one of the most prophetic answers in Scripture:

“God will provide for Himself the lamb.”

Abraham may not have understood everything contained in those words, but God was revealing something enormous:

Salvation would ultimately depend upon a Lamb provided by God Himself.

1. SIN CREATED THE NEED FOR A SACRIFICE

The story of the Lamb does not really begin in Bethlehem.

It begins with the entrance of sin.

Romans 6:23 declares:

“For the wages of sin is death.”

Sin separates humanity from God.

Sin brings guilt.

Sin brings condemnation.

Sin brings death.

Human beings cannot remove their own guilt before a holy God.

Religion cannot remove it.

Good works cannot remove it.

Money cannot remove it.

Education cannot remove it.

Morality cannot erase the sins already committed.

We needed something that humanity could never provide for itself.

We needed God to provide the Lamb.

2. ABRAHAM SAID, “GOD WILL PROVIDE”

Notice that Abraham did not say:

“Isaac will provide.”

He did not say:

“I will provide.”

He said:

“God will provide.”

That is the Gospel.

Salvation originates with God.

John 3:16 says:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…”

We did not climb our way into heaven.

Heaven came down to us.

We did not provide the Savior.

God provided the Savior.

We did not create the way of salvation.

God provided the Way.

And that Way is Jesus Christ.

3. THE PASSOVER LAMB

Centuries later, Israel was enslaved in Egypt.

God announced that judgment was coming upon the land.

But God provided a means of deliverance.

Exodus 12:3

“Every man shall take for himself a lamb…”

Then God commanded them to kill the lamb and place its blood upon the doorposts.

Exodus 12:13 says:

“When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”

Notice that God did not say:

“When I see your good works.”

He did not say:

“When I see your religious accomplishments.”

He said:

“WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD.”

The difference between judgment and deliverance was the blood of the lamb.

The lamb died.

The household lived.

The innocent died.

The guilty were spared.

What a picture of Jesus Christ!

4. ISAIAH SAW THE COMING LAMB

Hundreds of years before the crucifixion, Isaiah prophesied:

Isaiah 53:7

“He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter.”

Now the picture becomes clearer.

The Lamb would not merely be an animal.

Someone was coming.

Someone innocent.

Someone righteous.

Someone who would suffer.

Someone who would bear the sins of others.

Isaiah 53:6 says:

“And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

The Lamb would carry something to the altar.

Our sin.

5. THEN JOHN SAW JESUS

Centuries passed.

Generations came and went.

Then one day John the Baptist was standing near the Jordan River.

Jesus began walking toward him.

And suddenly John declared:

“BEHOLD! THE LAMB OF GOD!”

Imagine the weight of those words.

Isaac asked:

“Where is the lamb?”

Abraham answered:

“God will provide.”

Moses taught Israel about the Passover lamb.

Isaiah saw the Lamb going to slaughter.

Then John points toward Jesus and declares:

“THERE HE IS!”

The Lamb is not merely an animal.

The Lamb is a Person.

The Lamb has a name.

JESUS CHRIST.

And John says:

“Who takes away the sin of the world!”

Not merely covers.

Takes away.

Hebrews 10:4 says:

“For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.”

Those sacrifices pointed forward.

But Jesus Christ came to accomplish what those sacrifices could never accomplish.

CLOSING

Isaac asked:

“Where is the Lamb?”

John answered:

“Behold! The Lamb of God!”

And today the Holy Spirit still points sinners toward the same Savior.

Are you carrying guilt?

Behold the Lamb.

Are you bound by sin?

Behold the Lamb.

Are you afraid of judgment?

Behold the Lamb.

Are you searching for salvation?

Behold the Lamb.

God has provided what humanity desperately needed.

JESUS CHRIST — THE LAMB OF GOD.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for providing the Lamb. Thank You that when humanity could not save itself, You sent Your Son. Open our eyes to see Jesus Christ in all His glory. Help us never to trust in ourselves for salvation, but entirely in the Lamb whom You provided. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
