Bible Facts Of The Day, September 05, 2026 “Set Apart – Part I”

God is holy. God calls us to holiness. Therefore, the believer must live a life set apart for God.

PART I — THE GOD WHO IS HOLY

“Be Holy, for I Am Holy”

1 Peter 1:15–16

The command to be holy does not begin with us.

It begins with God.

God does not say, “Be holy because your church is holy.”

He does not say, “Be holy because your pastor is holy.”

He does not say, “Be holy because your family expects it.”

God says:

“Be holy, for I am holy.”

The standard of holiness is God Himself.

Before we understand holy living, we must understand the Holy God.

1. HOLINESS IS ESSENTIAL TO WHO GOD IS

Isaiah saw the Lord sitting upon His throne.

Isaiah 6:1–3

The seraphim cried:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”

They did not cry, “Love, love, love.”

They did not cry, “Mercy, mercy, mercy.”

They cried:

“HOLY! HOLY! HOLY!”

God is loving—but His love is holy.

God is merciful—but His mercy is holy.

God is powerful—but His power is holy.

God is righteous—and His righteousness is holy.

Holiness describes God’s absolute moral purity and His complete distinction from everything sinful and created.

There is nobody like Him.

Exodus 15:11

“Who is like You, O LORD, among the gods?
Who is like You, glorious in holiness?”

God does not merely practice holiness.

God IS holy.

2. GOD’S HOLINESS CANNOT FELLOWSHIP WITH SIN

This is where modern Christianity sometimes becomes uncomfortable.

We love talking about God’s love.

We love talking about grace.

We love talking about mercy.

And we should.

But the same God who loves sinners is perfectly holy and utterly opposed to sin.

Habakkuk 1:13

“You are of purer eyes than to behold evil,
And cannot look on wickedness.”

Sin and God’s holiness are incompatible.

That is why humanity’s greatest problem is not merely sickness.

It is not poverty.

It is not politics.

It is not education.

It is not economics.

Humanity’s deepest problem is SIN.

Because sinful humanity must somehow stand before a Holy God.

3. HOLINESS REVEALS OUR CONDITION

When Isaiah saw God’s holiness, something happened.

He stopped looking at everybody else’s sins.

Isaiah 6:5

“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips.”

When you truly encounter the holiness of God, you stop comparing yourself with other people.

You stop saying:

“I am better than him.”

“I don’t do what she does.”

“I am basically a good person.”

The question is not:

“Am I better than my neighbor?”

The question is:

“How do I stand before a perfectly holy God?”

And suddenly we realize:

We need a Savior.

4. CHRIST BRINGS SINNERS NEAR TO THE HOLY GOD

This is the glory of the Gospel.

God did not lower His holiness to save sinners.

Instead, Christ dealt with our sin.

2 Corinthians 5:21

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Jesus Christ took our judgment.

Jesus shed His blood.

Jesus bore our sins.

Jesus died.

Jesus rose again.

And through faith in Christ, sinners can be reconciled to the Holy God.

The cross shows us two magnificent truths simultaneously:

God is too holy to ignore sin.

And:

God is too loving to leave His people without a Savior.

Closing Challenge

Saints, never become casual about the holiness of God.

We worship a Holy God.

We pray to a Holy God.

We serve a Holy God.

And this Holy God says:

“BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”

“Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
