PART II — HOLY IN ALL YOUR CONDUCT

“Sunday Christianity Is Not Enough”

1 Peter 1:15

“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.”

Notice those words:

ALL YOUR CONDUCT.

Not some.

Not Sunday conduct.

Not church conduct.

Not conduct when the pastor is watching.

ALL YOUR CONDUCT.

1. HOLINESS MUST LEAVE THE CHURCH BUILDING WITH US

It is possible to look like a sheep on Sunday and live like a wolf Monday through Saturday.

Someone can carry a Bible and still live contrary to that Bible.

Someone can sing:

“Holy, Holy, Holy”

while secretly embracing things that dishonor the Holy God.

Christianity is not a costume we wear on Sunday.

Following Jesus is a life.

Jesus said:

Luke 9:23

“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

Notice:

DAILY.

Monday—follow Jesus.

Tuesday—follow Jesus.

Wednesday—follow Jesus.

Thursday—follow Jesus.

Friday—follow Jesus.

Saturday—follow Jesus.

Sunday—follow Jesus.

Christianity has no day off.

2. FOLLOWING CHRIST REQUIRES DENIAL

Jesus never advertised discipleship as an easy road.

Matthew 7:14

“Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life.”

Following Jesus will sometimes cost you something.

You may have to surrender relationships.

You may have to abandon habits.

You may have to change entertainment.

You may have to change conversations.

You may have to leave environments that continually pull you toward sin.

You may have to forgive someone your flesh wants to hate.

You may have to remain silent when your flesh wants revenge.

You may have to say:

NO TO YOURSELF

so that you can say:

YES TO CHRIST.

3. HOLINESS REQUIRES A RENEWED MIND

Sanctification involves transformation.

Romans 12:2

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

The world wants to conform you.

God’s Word works to transform you.

The world says:

“Follow your desires.”

Scripture says:

Follow Christ.

The world says:

“Live your truth.”

Jesus says:

John 14:6

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

The Word begins changing our thinking.

Changed thinking produces changed desires.

Changed desires produce changed choices.

Changed choices produce changed conduct.

This is why holiness cannot be separated from Scripture.

Psalm 119:11

“Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.”

4. HOLINESS IS NOT THE PRICE OF SALVATION

We must be clear.

We do not become holy in order to earn salvation.

We pursue holiness because Christ has saved us and set us apart as His own.

Salvation is by grace.

Ephesians 2:8–10

We are saved by grace through faith—not by works.

But the grace that saves us begins producing a changed life.

We are not saved by good works.

We are saved for good works.

Holiness is therefore not the root of salvation.

Holiness is the fruit of salvation.

5. EXAMINE YOUR CONDUCT

What does your Monday say about your Sunday confession?

What does your private life say about your public worship?

What does your phone reveal?

What does your speech reveal?

What does your attitude reveal?

What do your relationships reveal?

What does your entertainment reveal?

Peter says:

“Be holy in ALL your conduct.”

Not because people are watching.

But because God is holy.

“Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
