Bible Facts Of The Day, September 07, 2026 “Set Apart – Part III”

PART III — SEPARATED FROM THE WORLD, SET APART FOR GOD

“Choose Today: God or the World?”

Hebrews 12:14

“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”

Holiness means being set apart unto God.

There is a separation involved in Christianity.

But biblical separation is not merely separation from something.

It is separation unto Someone.

We separate from sin because we belong to Jesus Christ.

1. YOU CANNOT BELONG TO CHRIST AND LOVE THE WORLD’S SYSTEM

1 John 2:15

“Do not love the world or the things in the world.”

John is not telling Christians to hate people.

God loves people.

We are commanded to love our neighbors.

The “world” here is the fallen system organized around desires and values that oppose God.

And Scripture says:

Do not fall in love with it.

Why?

Because whatever captures your heart will eventually influence your life.

2. SOME THINGS MUST BE LEFT BEHIND

Hebrews gives us a picture of the Christian race.

Hebrews 12:1

“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us.”

Notice two categories:

WEIGHTS

and

SIN.

Some things are obviously sinful.

Other things may not be sinful in themselves, but they become weights that hinder our pursuit of Christ.

Therefore ask:

Does this bring me closer to Christ or continually pull me away?

There are relationships that can become weights.

Habits can become weights.

Entertainment can become a weight.

Pride can become a weight.

Bitterness can become a weight.

The approval of people can become a weight.

And Scripture says:

LAY IT ASIDE.

Why?

Because you cannot run effectively while carrying everything from your old life.

3. SEPARATION WITHOUT CHRIST IS EMPTY RELIGION

We must understand this carefully.

Holiness is not simply:

“I don’t do this.”

“I don’t wear that.”

“I don’t go there.”

“I don’t associate with those people.”

A person can separate from a hundred external things and still have a heart full of pride, hatred, jealousy, lust, greed and self-righteousness.

Biblical holiness is not merely separation from the world.

It is consecration to God.

Jesus must become the center.

Colossians 3:1–2

“Seek those things which are above, where Christ is… Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

The purpose of holiness is not isolation.

It is devotion.

I belong to Christ.

My mind belongs to Christ.

My body belongs to Christ.

My time belongs to Christ.

My future belongs to Christ.

MY LIFE BELONGS TO CHRIST.

4. WITHOUT HOLINESS NO ONE WILL SEE THE LORD

Hebrews 12:14

“Pursue… holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”

That is a serious statement.

Scripture does not teach that our holiness earns entrance into heaven. Our salvation rests entirely upon Christ.

But Scripture also does not recognize a Christianity that wants Jesus as Savior while permanently rejecting His lordship and refusing the sanctifying work of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”

Something changes.

Perhaps gradually.

Sometimes painfully.

But genuinely.

Old desires begin losing their authority.

New desires begin developing.

Sin that once brought pleasure begins bringing conviction.

Things that once seemed important begin losing their attraction.

Why?

Because God is sanctifying His people.

5. CHOOSE YOUR SEPARATION

Here is the question with which this entire series concludes:

From whom do you want to be separated?

God—or the world?

Sin says:

“Stay with me.”

The world says:

“Conform to me.”

Jesus says:

“Follow Me.”

You cannot walk in two opposite directions simultaneously.

Joshua 24:15

“Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”

Brothers and Sisters, choose Christ.

Choose holiness.

Choose obedience.

Choose the narrow road.

Choose God’s Word over the world’s approval.

Choose eternal treasure over temporary pleasure.

Choose fellowship with Christ over friendship with sin.

SERIES CLIMAX — SET APART FOR GOD

God is calling His Church to holiness.

Not merely louder worship.

Not merely bigger buildings.

Not merely greater crowds.

Not merely more activity.

But:

HOLY PEOPLE.

A people whose lives declare:

WE BELONG TO JESUS CHRIST.

When the world compromises—

Stand holy.

When culture changes—

Stand holy.

When temptation comes—

Stand holy.

When following Jesus becomes difficult—

Stand holy.

When others abandon biblical truth—

Stand holy.

Why?

Because the One who called you is HOLY.

1 Peter 1:15–16

“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’”

Finally

Brothers and sisters:

Let our Sunday confession become our Monday conduct.

Let our worship become our lifestyle.

Let Scripture renew our minds.

Let Christ govern our desires.

Let sin be laid aside.

Let the world lose its grip upon us.

And let our lives announce:

I HAVE BEEN SET APART.

I BELONG TO JESUS CHRIST.

I WILL PURSUE HOLINESS.

I WILL FOLLOW CHRIST.

I WILL LIVE FOR THE GLORY OF GOD.

Closing Prayer

Holy Father, You alone are perfectly holy. We confess that we have fallen short of Your glory. Thank You for Jesus Christ, who shed His blood to cleanse us from our sins and reconcile us to You.

Sanctify us through Your truth. Renew our minds through Your Word. Expose everything within us that does not please You. Give us strength to lay aside every sin and every weight that hinders our walk with Christ.

May we not merely appear holy before people while living differently in secret. Make our public lives and private lives pleasing to You. Teach us to walk in holiness every day.

Separate our hearts from the sinful desires of this world and set them completely upon Jesus Christ. May our words, thoughts, relationships, decisions, bodies, homes, churches, and conduct testify that we belong to You.

And until the day we stand before You, give us grace to pursue holiness and faithfully follow Jesus Christ.

For You have said, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ,

Amen.
