Bible Facts Of The Day, September 15, 2026 “Daniel The Prophet, Seventy Weeks Prophecy – Part I”

PART I — THE 70 WEEKS: GOD’S PROPHETIC CLOCK

Daniel 9:24 begins:

“Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city…”

The prophecy was specifically given concerning Daniel’s people—Israel—and Daniel’s holy city—Jerusalem.

The “seventy weeks” are understood in the pre-tribulation interpretation as seventy groups of seven years:

70 × 7 = 490 years

The prophecy is divided into:

7 weeks + 62 weeks + 1 week = 70 weeks

The first 69 weeks total 483 years. Daniel then declares that after this period:

“Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself…”
—Daniel 9:26

Christ’s crucifixion therefore becomes the great dividing point in the prophecy.

But only 69 of the 70 weeks have been accounted for.

One prophetic week remains.

That final week represents seven years.

Daniel 9:26 also describes events occurring after the 69 weeks, including the destruction of Jerusalem and the sanctuary. Pre-tribulation interpretation therefore sees an interval between the 69th and 70th weeks.

This interval is associated with the present Church Age.

The prophetic sequence becomes:

69 Weeks → Messiah Crucified → Church Age → 70th Week

The important truth is that God has not abandoned His prophetic purposes concerning Israel.

The prophetic clock has one final seven-year period remaining.

“Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
