PART V — THE END OF THE ANTICHRIST

“When the King of Kings Appears”

2 Thessalonians 2:8

“And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.”

The Antichrist will rise.

He will deceive.

He will exercise authority.

He will blaspheme God.

He will persecute the saints.

He will demand allegiance.

For a season, it may appear that darkness has conquered.

But the Antichrist has an expiration date.

His kingdom is temporary.

His authority is temporary.

His glory is temporary.

His deception is temporary.

And his end will come when Jesus Christ appears in glory.

1. THE ANTICHRIST WILL GATHER FOR WAR

Revelation 16:13–14

Revelation describes demonic spirits going out to the rulers of the earth:

“…to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.”

The Antichrist’s rebellion ultimately moves toward direct confrontation with God’s purposes.

Revelation 19:19 says:

“And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.”

Think about the arrogance of human rebellion.

The creature prepares to fight the Creator.

The kingdoms of earth gather against the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Beast stands against the Lamb.

But this is not a battle between two equal powers.

Satan is not equal to God.

The Antichrist is not equal to Christ.

There is no uncertainty about who possesses ultimate authority.

2. JESUS CHRIST WILL RETURN IN GLORY

Revelation 19:11

“Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True…”

The first time Jesus came, He came in humility.

He was born in Bethlehem.

He was wrapped in swaddling cloths.

He was rejected.

He was mocked.

He was beaten.

He was crucified.

But Revelation 19 presents His return very differently.

He comes as King.

Revelation 19:16 declares:

“And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

The Antichrist may claim authority.

Jesus possesses authority.

The Antichrist may demand worship.

Jesus deserves worship.

The Antichrist may wear temporary crowns.

Jesus is the King of kings.

3. CHRIST WILL DESTROY THE ANTICHRIST’S POWER

Paul gives us an extraordinary description:

2 Thessalonians 2:8

“…whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.”

The Antichrist’s career ends because Christ appears.

Imagine the contrast.

For years the Antichrist has presented himself as powerful.

Nations have followed him.

People have marveled at him.

The False Prophet has promoted him.

Satan has empowered him.

But then—

HEAVEN OPENS.

The true King appears.

Jesus does not struggle for victory.

He does not negotiate with the Beast.

He does not need Satan’s permission.

The glory of His appearing exposes how temporary the Antichrist’s power always was.

Church, never measure God’s power by how strong evil looks today.

Darkness may appear powerful—

until the Light appears.

4. THE BEAST AND FALSE PROPHET WILL BE CAPTURED

Revelation becomes very specific about their fate.

Revelation 19:20

“Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence…”

Notice the words:

“The beast was captured.”

The ruler who controlled others will himself be taken.

The one who persecuted others cannot escape.

The one who demanded allegiance cannot save himself.

The one who presented himself as invincible discovers that his authority was always temporary.

And beside him stands the False Prophet.

The political counterfeit and the religious counterfeit come to their end together.

5. THEY WILL BE CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE

Revelation 19:20 continues:

“These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

This is the final earthly destination Revelation gives for the Beast and False Prophet.

Their rebellion ends in divine judgment.

There is no triumphant retirement for the Antichrist.

There is no hidden escape.

There is no kingdom waiting somewhere else.

There is judgment.

The man who exalted himself against God is brought down by God.

This demonstrates a principle found throughout Scripture:

Proverbs 16:18

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

The Antichrist represents human self-exaltation carried to an extraordinary extreme.

He essentially declares:

“I will exalt myself.”

God’s judgment answers:

“You will be brought down.”

“Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
