Bible Facts Of The Day, September 28, 2026 “FROM JERUSALEM TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH – Part I”

Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Jesus did not tell His disciples merely to go somewhere.

He told them they would first receive Someone.

Before Jerusalem.

Before Judea.

Before Samaria.

Before the ends of the earth.

There was:

THE HOLY SPIRIT.

The mission of the Church was never designed to operate through human strength.

Jesus said:

“You shall receive power.”

And when that power came, the witnesses would move outward:

JERUSALEM → JUDEA → SAMARIA → THE END OF THE EARTH.

This is geographical.

It is missional.

And it gives us a powerful spiritual pattern for the Christian life.

PART I — JERUSALEM

THE POWER MUST BEGIN WHERE YOU ARE

Acts 1:8

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem…”

Jesus told His disciples that their witness would begin in Jerusalem.

Why Jerusalem?

Because Jerusalem was where they were.

Before God sends you somewhere else, He has already placed people around you.

Your Jerusalem is the place where God has positioned you right now.

It may be:

your home,

your family,

your church,

your workplace,

your neighborhood,

your friends,

or the people you encounter every day.

1. BEFORE THERE WAS A MISSION, THERE WAS POWER

Jesus did not say:

“Go into Jerusalem and try your best.”

He said:

“You shall receive power.”

The Greek word translated “power” is dynamis, conveying power, ability, strength, and might.

Christian ministry cannot be sustained merely by human personality.

Education is valuable.

Training is valuable.

Experience is valuable.

Organization is valuable.

But none of them can replace:

THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Zechariah 4:6

“‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD of hosts.”

The disciples had walked with Jesus.

They had heard His sermons.

They had witnessed His miracles.

They had seen Him crucified.

They had seen Him resurrected.

Yet Jesus still told them to wait.

Acts 1:4–5

“He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father… ‘you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.’”

Knowledge alone was not enough.

Experience alone was not enough.

They needed the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

2. JERUSALEM MEANS YOUR WITNESS BEGINS CLOSE TO HOME

Sometimes we imagine doing great things for God somewhere far away while overlooking the people immediately around us.

But Jesus said:

“Jerusalem.”

Your first mission field may be your own house.

Mark 5:19

“Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”

Notice:

GO HOME.

Your family should see Christ in you.

Your children should see Christ in you.

Your spouse should see Christ in you.

Your coworkers should see Christ in you.

Your neighbors should see Christ in you.

It is possible to speak powerfully about Jesus publicly while failing to demonstrate His character privately.

The Holy Spirit does not merely give us power to speak about Christ.

He transforms us so that our lives increasingly reflect Christ.

Galatians 5:22–23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

Jerusalem sees you when the microphone (you preachers) is turned off.

Jerusalem sees you Monday through Saturday.

Jerusalem knows whether Sunday’s confession matches Monday’s conduct.

Therefore:

LET YOUR WITNESS BEGIN IN JERUSALEM.

3. JERUSALEM WAS ALSO THE PLACE OF THEIR FAILURE

There is something even deeper here.

Jerusalem was not merely where the disciples lived.

Jerusalem was associated with some of their greatest failures.

Peter denied Jesus near the events surrounding Jerusalem.

The disciples scattered.

Fear had gripped them.

Yet Jesus sends them back into the very environment associated with fear and failure.

Then Pentecost comes.

Acts 2:4

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

The frightened disciples became courageous witnesses.

Peter, who had denied Jesus, stood publicly and proclaimed Him.

Acts 2:36

“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

What changed?

Peter was still Peter.

Jerusalem was still Jerusalem.

The opposition was still real.

BUT THE HOLY SPIRIT HAD COME.

Your Jerusalem may contain memories of failure.

But yesterday’s failure does not have to determine tomorrow’s witness.

The Holy Spirit can empower the person who once trembled to stand boldly for Jesus Christ.

CLOSING DECLARATION

Beloved, do not wait until you reach another city.

Do not wait until you have another opportunity.

Do not wait until circumstances become perfect.

START IN JERUSALEM.

Start where you are.

Start in your home.

Start in your church.

Start at your workplace.

Start in your neighborhood.

Because when the Holy Spirit empowers a believer,

ordinary places become mission fields.

“Maranatha! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
