BIBLE FACTS OF THE DAY

  • Bible Facts Of The Day, March 17, 2026 “I AM WHO I AM”

    March 17th, 2026

The phrase “I AM” in the Bible carries one of the most profound revelations of God’s identity. Understanding its Hebrew meaning can make a very powerful sermon because it reveals God’s eternal, self-existent nature.

The Hebrew Meaning of “I AM”

In The Bible, when God spoke to Moses at the burning bush in Book of Exodus 3:14, He declared:

    “I AM WHO I AM.”

    The Hebrew phrase is:

    “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh”

    Meaning of the Words

    • Ehyeh  – “I AM” or “I WILL BE”
    • Asher  – “Who / That / Which”

    So the phrase can mean:

    • “I AM WHO I AM”
    • “I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE”
    • “THE SELF-EXISTING ONE”

This name reveals that God depends on nothing and no one for His existence.

From the same Hebrew root comes the covenant name:

YHWH — often pronounced Yahweh, meaning
    “The Eternal, Self-Existing One.”

    THE GREAT I AM

    1. God Is the Self-Existing One

Before there was creation, before time, before the universe — God already was.

    He did not say:

    • “I became”
    • “I was created”
    • “I will be”

    He said:

    “I AM.”

    God exists outside of time.

When everything else began, God already was.

“Before the mountains were brought forth… from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” — Psalm 90:2

    He is not becoming God.
    He is God eternally.

    2. “I AM” Means God Is Everything We Need

When God says I AM, it means:

    • When you need peace — I AM peace.
    • When you need provision — I AM your provider.
    • When you need healing — I AM your healer.
    • When you need strength — I AM your strength.

God did not attach limits to His name.

    He simply said:

    I AM.

    Meaning:

“Whatever My people need — I AM.”

    3. Jesus Declared Himself the “I AM”

When Jesus Christ came, He revealed that He is the same divine “I AM.”

In Gospel of John 8:58, Jesus said:

    “Before Abraham was, I AM.”

The crowd immediately understood the claim — Jesus was declaring Himself God.

Jesus repeated this divine identity many times:

    • I AM the Bread of Life
    • I AM the Light of the World
    • I AM the Door
    • I AM the Good Shepherd
    • I AM the Resurrection and the Life
    • I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life

    Jesus was saying:

The God who spoke from the burning bush is standing before you.

    4. The “I AM” Is Present Right Now

    Notice God did not say:

    • I WAS
    • I WILL BE

    He said:

    I AM.

That means God is always present.

    Right now:

    • In your storm — I AM
    • In your struggle — I AM
    • In your weakness — I AM

God is the eternal present help.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

    Prophetic Conclusion

The same voice that spoke from the burning bush still speaks today:

I AM the Alpha and the Omega.
I AM the beginning and the end.
I AM the first and the last.

    Empires rise and fall.

    Kings come and go.

But the throne of heaven still echoes with one eternal declaration:

    “I AM WHO I AM.”

And the greatest revelation of the Gospel is this:

The I AM stepped into history in the person of Jesus Christ so that we could know the living God.

    Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
