PART II – “Held in His Hands Forever”

God’s Engraving Becomes Our Eternal Security

Introduction

Isaiah 49:16 ends with another remarkable statement:

“Your walls are continually before Me.”

Jerusalem’s walls were broken.

Its people were discouraged.

Its future appeared hopeless.

Yet God saw restoration before anyone else could.

God never looks only at our present condition.

He always sees His finished work.

I. “Your Walls Are Continually Before Me”

Walls represented:

• Protection
• Security
• Identity
• Stability
• Hope

Israel saw ruins.

God saw restoration.

The same is true today.

You may see:

• Broken relationships
• Broken health
• Broken finances
• Broken dreams
• Broken ministries

God sees what His grace is building.

Supporting Scriptures

• Nehemiah 2:17–18 – God restored Jerusalem’s walls.
• Jeremiah 29:11 – God has plans for hope and a future.
• Romans 8:28 – God works all things together for good.

II. Isaiah Points Us to Calvary

The greatest fulfillment of Isaiah’s words is found in Jesus Christ.

Those hands that engraved His people became the hands pierced by nails.

Those hands:

• Healed the sick
• Blessed children
• Raised the dead
• Calmed storms

Then they were nailed to the cross.

After His resurrection Jesus showed His disciples His hands.

“He showed them His hands and His side.” (John 20:20)

Those scars remain forever.

The nail prints proclaim:

“I have redeemed you.”

“You belong to Me.”

III. Safe in His Hands

Jesus declared,

“No one shall snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:28)

Isaiah says we are engraved upon His hands.

Jesus says we are held in His hands.

Paul confirms:

“Nothing shall separate us from the love of God.” (Romans 8:38–39)

Our security rests in Christ—not in ourselves.

IV. Living as People Engraved by God

Since we belong to Christ:

We live confidently.

Fear loses its grip because God holds us.

We serve faithfully.

Our lives are no longer our own.

We worship gratefully.

The cross forever reminds us of His covenant love.

We witness boldly.

The world needs to know there is a Savior whose hands were pierced for sinners.

Final Conclusion

Whenever you doubt God’s love…

Look at Calvary.

Whenever you wonder if God remembers you…

Look at the nail-scarred hands of Jesus.

Whenever you fear your future…

Remember Isaiah’s promise.

You are engraved upon the palms of God.

You are remembered.

You are redeemed.

You are secure.

And because Christ lives, His hands will never let you go.

Closing Prayer

Gracious Father,

Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, whose nail-pierced hands testify forever of Your redeeming love. Thank You that our names are engraved upon Your hands and that our lives are secure in Christ. Give us confidence to trust Your plans, courage to serve You faithfully, and compassion to share the hope of the Gospel with others. Help us to live each day in the assurance that nothing can separate us from Your love.

We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
