A 79-Day Journey from Promise to Bethlehem —
November 1–10 | God Is Working Even When Heaven Seems Silent
PART III — WAITING FOR THE PROMISE
DAY 28 — NOVEMBER 4, 2026
GOD NEVER FORGETS HIS COVENANT
Luke 1:72–73
God is faithful to every covenant promise He makes. The birth of Jesus Christ demonstrates that God never forgets His Word, His people, or His eternal plan of redemption.
Introduction — A Promise God Never Forgot
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Yesterday, we learned that Jesus Christ came at the fullness of time.
Today, we discover why His coming was certain.
Because God never forgets His covenant!
When John the Baptist was born, his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit and praised God.
Luke 1:72–73 declares:
“To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant, The oath which He swore to our father Abraham.”
What a magnificent declaration!
Centuries had passed since God made His promise to Abraham.
Yet God had not forgotten.
THE PASSING OF TIME NEVER CANCELS THE PROMISES OF GOD!
1. God Remembers His Covenant
Notice Zacharias’ words:
“To remember His holy covenant.”
Does this mean God had forgotten and suddenly remembered?
Absolutely not!
God never forgets anything.
In Scripture, when God remembers His covenant, it means He acts faithfully according to what He has promised.
Genesis 17:7 records God’s covenant with Abraham and his descendants.
“And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you”.
God’s promises were not empty words.
They were expressions of His faithfulness.
What God promises, He will accomplish according to His perfect will.
2. God’s Covenant Points Toward Jesus Christ
God promised Abraham that through his offspring the nations would receive blessing.
Genesis 22:18 reveals this promise.
“In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice”.
Centuries later, the apostle Paul explained that its ultimate fulfillment is found in Jesus Christ.
Galatians 3:16 identifies Christ as the promised Seed.
Think about this!
The promise began with Abraham.
It continued through the history of Israel.
And at the appointed time, Jesus Christ was born.
The Child of Bethlehem was the fulfillment of God’s ancient promise!
3. God’s Faithfulness Reveals His Mercy
Zacharias declared that God would perform the mercy promised to the fathers.
Why is mercy important?
Because sinners cannot save themselves.
We need forgiveness.
We need redemption.
We need a Savior.
Ephesians 2:8 teaches that salvation is by grace through faith.
Jesus Christ came to accomplish what humanity could never accomplish through good works.
The manger reveals God’s faithfulness.
The cross reveals God’s mercy.
The resurrection reveals Christ’s victory.
Through Jesus Christ, God’s saving mercy is proclaimed to the nations.
4. God Will Keep His Promise Concerning Christ’s Return
Brothers and Sisters,
God kept His promise concerning the Messiah’s first coming.
And He will keep His promise concerning His return.
Jesus declared in John 14:3:
“I will come again and receive you to Myself…”
Our confidence is not based upon human predictions.
It rests upon the faithfulness of Jesus Christ.
The God who remembered His covenant with Abraham will never fail to fulfill His promises concerning His Son.
Therefore, we must remain faithful, holy, and ready.
Conclusion — Trust the God Who Keeps His Word
Brothers and Sisters,
Perhaps you are waiting for an answer to prayer.
Perhaps circumstances have tested your faith.
Remember what Zacharias declared.
GOD REMEMBERS HIS HOLY COVENANT!
His promises are trustworthy.
His mercy is everlasting.
His redemptive purpose cannot fail.
As we prepare for Christmas, remember:
GOD MADE THE PROMISE.
GOD REMEMBERED HIS COVENANT.
GOD SENT HIS SON.
CHRIST ACCOMPLISHED REDEMPTION.
AND THE KING IS COMING AGAIN!
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the God who never forgets His covenant.
Thank You for fulfilling Your ancient promises through Jesus Christ, our Savior and King.
Forgive us for the times we have doubted Your faithfulness.
Strengthen our faith, teach us to trust Your Word, and help us remain obedient while awaiting Christ’s glorious return.
As we prepare for Christmas, fill our hearts with gratitude for Your mercy and everlasting faithfulness.
In the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we pray.
Amen.
